Twins fall to Padres

On Tuesday night the San Diego Padres defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-1 at Target Field.

Twins starting pitcher Louie Varland tossed six quality innings that included six strikeouts while only giving up one run, ultimately ending up with a no-decision.

Matt Carpenter drove in the first run of the game in the fourth inning, giving San Diego a 1-0 lead. Minnesota countered in the bottom half of the inning on a Jose Miranda RBI double, tying the game at 1-1.

Austin Nola hit a sacrifice in the seventh inning, making it 2-1 in favor of the Padres. Fernando Tatis Jr. then scored on an error extending the lead to 3-1. In the ninth inning Manny Machado hit a three-run home run to put the icing on the cake for San Diego 6-1.

Game two of their series is Tuesday night with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m. Pablo Lopez will get the nod for the Twins.
