2024 NFL Draft Round One recap + record crowd

(Detroit, MI) — The first night of the 2024 NFL Draft had its fair share of offensive players fly off the board.

A record 23 offensive players were taken in the first round.The Chicago Bears kicked off the night by selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. The Washington Commanders followed that by taking LSU signal caller Jayden Daniels. The New England Patriots made it three straight quarterbacks taken to start the draft after selecting North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

The Atlanta Falcons pulled off the biggest surprise of the night after drafting Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick. The Minnesota Vikings traded with the New York Jets to draft Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy with the 10th pick. Bo Nix became the sixth quarterback taken in the first round after the Denver Broncos selected him with the 12th pick.


Detroit Sets NFL Draft Record With 275K Fans In Attendance

The city of Detroit set an all-time record at the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday. A massive record-setting crowd of 275,000 fans attended the NFL Draft in downtown Detroit around Campus Martius. Before Thursday, Nashville had held the previous one-day record of just over 200,000 fans.

The draft will continue on Friday and Saturday, with Detroit having an opportunity to break Nashville’s three-day mark of more than 600,000 people that was set in 2019.
